Short Summary[]
Kurai fails to pitch a 160km/h ball in front of the others, but when a Kurai throws a ball at some purse snatchers later, Sugadaira manages to clock it on a speed gun.
Long Summary[]
The others are shocked to hear that Kurai can supposedly pitch a 160km/h fastball when the fastest recorded in Japan is 158km. They get a speed gun out and hold it ready.
Kurai pitches but it was only 126km/h. The others are disappointed but Sugadaira says he was just warming up. After about 40 pitches, his throws are still only at an average speed. Ideguchi shouts at him to stop ‘screwing around’ and give it all he’s got, but Kurai sadly says the 160km/h ball was probably just a misinterpretation on Narazawa’s part and what he’s just been throwing was his best.
The others are disappointed and go to get changed. They recall that Narazawa had lost his mind a bit later on in his career anyway. Oikawa finds Tokuchi and tells him he’s overestimated the former minor-leaguers and again suggests he re-think the One Outs contract.
Sugadaira remains on the pitch while Kurai cleans up. Sugadaira tries to cheer him up, reminding him he doesn’t need a super-fast pitch to be a great pitcher anyway. They suddenly spot two random people with a moped who have made their way on to the field and Sugadaira tells them to get out. The two men start making fun of him when an old woman shouts from outside the field that they’re snatchers who have just stolen her bag. The snatchers try to get away on the moped and Sugadaira chases after them. He tires out and shouts at Kurai throw the ball at them, who obeys and pitches. Sugadaira notices his form is different from usual. He throws the ball as hard as he can but his aim is completely off and he almost hits Sugadaira.
Sugadaira had managed to pick up the speed gun in time for Kurai’s throw. He looks at the screen, which says the pitch was 164km/h.
